About Sheephaven Hutchworks
I started this small business sort of by accident. One day I realized I had more fiber than I could possibly
spin up in a lifetime. At about the same time it struck me that my rabbit breeding had been spectacularly
successful -- so successful that the cages were covering the walls and reaching the ceiling of my workshop,
and had started to spill out into the chicken coop.
It was time to find someone who could use some of the fiber. It was also time to cut back on production.
That meant laying off some of my
but of course I couldn't just turn them out to fend for themselves.
So I started going to fiber fairs and festivals, offering fiber and angora rabbits for sale. I didn't really intend
for it to be a business. I just wanted to find homes for some excess fiber and rabbits. But I discovered that
I needed an Ohio vendor's license. Once I had the license and was collecting and paying sales tax, I had
a business, almost in spite of myself.
Since then I've reduced my surplus fiber stock, and I've placed many rabbits in new fiber-producing jobs. Though
I still have a few rabbits and sometimes offer small quantities of fiber to my friends, I'm no longer breeding
rabbits or formally offering fiber for sale. Sorry!
